How is this funding used at Stockton Riverside College?
Intent
- To support learners who did not achieve a GCSE grade 4+ in English and/or maths.
- To identify any deterioration/gaps in these skills and support rapid progression.
- Identify any gaps in knowledge or skills that learners have as a result of their courses being disrupted. This will include, but not be limited to, Math and English skills, practical skills, confidence building, and emotional well-being.
Implementation
- Learners will receive an individual discussion around any concerns they have regarding their return to learning, along with an assessment of their skills and any gaps in their development in English/maths skills.
- Development of an individual intervention plan in small groups to outline the learners’ goals – supported by a subject specialist. These will focus on common gaps in skills to enable peer support/interaction.
- Sessions include meetings to help bridge gaps in skills, time-management, preparation for attending a placement setting, including being Covid-safe, confidence building, emotional well-being and resilience, communicating during remote sessions, interacting remotely, and communicating in front of others
Impact
- The learners’ learning opportunities will not be hindered by the impact of Covid.
- Improved attendance at all sessions.
- The vast majority of students achieve their qualifications and progress on to their chosen destination, whether that be further study or into a workplace.
- Increase in confidence and, subsequently, the learners’ well-being and mental health.
