Maths and English teachers came together to share best practice at the mE+ Conference.
Stockton Riverside College was proud to play host to this annual event offering teaching professionals from across the region the chance to collaborate for the benefit of all our learners.
“This event is all about working together for one goal,” said Stockton’s head of department for English, maths and ESOL, Anne-Marie Chiswell. “That is to help students to progress in their English and maths.”
With a full day of talks and workshops, guest speakers included keynote speaker Eddie Playfair, senior policy manager for the Association of Colleges, and author and motivational speaker Jim Roberson, who delivered his workshop titled “Unleash the Superhero in You!”.
Anne-Marie said: “It was a really great day, all about collaboration, working alongside FE English and maths teachers from right across the Tees Valley and the wider region.”
Workshops were also led by FE colleagues from the Education Training Collective and Middlesbrough College, sharing their good practices and lessons learned between colleges.
The session with Jim Roberson offered ways to motivate college students as they continue to work towards those all-important qualifications after school.
Anne-Marie said: “For some who are resitting these subjects for the second or third time, it can feel like a bit of chore. We want them to see and understand that achieving their English and maths qualifications opens up so much more potential to them.”
This year’s mE+ Conference at Stockton Riverside College included visitors from Redcar and Cleveland College, Hartlepool College of Further Education, Middlesbrough College, Darlington College, Northern School of Art and New College Durham.
