Staff from Stockton Riverside College’s Health and Social Care, Early Years and Education teams have been showing off their pins for a good cause.
Colleagues stepped up and put their best foot forward, wearing the fun and funkiest hosiery they could find, as part of their own Funky Tights Day.
Raising awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK, the event was organised in memory of a much-loved former colleague, Jane Hardy, who lost her own battle with cancer.
“Well known by friends and colleagues for her fabulous collection of colourful tights, this was a chance to remember Jane in a way that she would have loved,” said the college’s head of health, education and creative, Andrea Harrison.
Around 15 colleagues, including the gents, selected an array of tights in different colours and designs to wear for work, with some even coming from Jane’s own (unworn) vast personal collection.
They no doubt helped spread the word standing in front of their classes throughout the day and explaining their unusual choice of attire.
“Cancer touches everyone’s lives in some way, including our staff and student communities,” said Andrea.
“That’s why it is so important to raise awareness for such an important charity and for us a Funky Tights Day proved the perfect way to do that.”
Course leader for health, early years and care Jackie Robbins added: “Jane was a great inspiration to many members of our team and the students she encouraged and supported. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
“Funky Tights Day gave us an opportunity to highlight an important cause, grab a cuppa and share memories of Jane.”
