Introduction

This course is part of TUs comprehensive suite of Initial Teacher Training provision, which trains teachers from early years to higher education. This course is specifically designed for those wanting to teach young people over the age of 14 in further education and skills settings.

What will I learn

Each year you will study 2 modules, one theory and one practical. The modules are purposefully designed to complement each other. Year 1 course modules: - Developing learning and teaching in my subject - Professional practice 1 Year 2 course modules: - Enhancing learning and teaching in my subject - Professional practice 2

How will I learn

You will ‘learn by doing’ and your placement will run alongside your classroom sessions. In your classroom-based training, you will be relating that practical learning to wider contexts and theories. Contexts and theories will then be purposefully integrated into your practical teaching. Trainees need to be employed in a further education and skills setting. Trainees need to be teaching for the majority of their role and need to evidence at least 150 independent teaching hours across the duration of the course, plus 100 hours of professional practice.

What's next

After successful completion of this course you can progress onto the BA (Hons) Education and Training degree programme. This course is a continuing professional development award for teachers, working in the Lifelong Learning Sector. Completion of this award can contribute to the maintenance of License to Practice, Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status.
