As a Pastoral Support Assistant in a large secondary school, it is important that Jane is up-to-date with her knowledge across a range of different subjects.

With a particular interest in safeguarding, Jane, 44, from Acklam, found that lockdown was a perfect opportunity to expand on her knowledge and gain extra qualifications for her CV.

Jane said: “I like that I can fit completing the courses around my free time and I can work at my own pace with achievable targets. Not only do I have new qualifications on my CV I was also able to complete my targets on my review at work. The school is now also more aware that I would like to move into a role that incorporates safeguarding and my confidence has definitely improved since achieving the Level 2 in Safeguarding and Prevent.”

After successfully completing the Level 2 qualifications in Safeguarding and Prevent and Bullying in Children and Young People, Jane is already recommending the courses to other colleagues within her team and is in the process of choosing the next one she would like to complete.

Jane added: “Sarah, the Distance Learning Coordinator was fantastic in helping me to sign up and Rachel, my tutor, was very encouraging and gave me some great constructive feedback. I would definitely recommend distance learning to anyone.”
