From capturing life-changing moments to helping create life-changing moments, Midwifery was a big career change for former photographer Hannah.

After taking photographs of families and new-borns on the maternity ward, Hannah was inspired by the midwives but did not have the Maths qualification needed to go to university.

Hannah said: “Working on the ward I got to see up close how amazing the midwives are; the more time I spent there the more I wanted that change in career. In order to apply for Midwifery at university I needed a Maths qualification; this was literally the only subject I didn’t pass at school so I had huge anxiety about it.”

After being made redundant from the hospital due to Covid-19, Hannah decided it was now or never. After applying for Midwifery, she also signed up for a part-time online Maths course with Stockton Riverside College.

Hannah added: “When I was accepted on Midwifery subject to my Maths result, I knew it was meant to be. I was still anxious but Tanya, the Maths tutor, was amazing. She was always there to help me and answer my questions. She had so much confidence in me and it made me believe in myself.”

After successfully passing her Maths, Hannah will be starting her Midwifery course at Teesside University in September.
