A gift of 30 small food parcels will provide a helping hand to students who may be facing difficult times.

The supplies were donated to the colleges that make up the Education Training Collective (Etc.) from Stockton-based, Vision for Education.

Agency consultant Matthew Griffiths said: “It has been a crazy year for everyone and for some it will have been a struggle. This is just our way of reaching out and giving something back.”

The food packages included cupboard essentials such as cereal and pasta, along with a few snacks and treats.

“It is just a little something to help some of those who may be struggling,” said Matthew.

As a local business working with schools across Teesside and the surrounding areas to provide teaching and support staff when cover is required, he explained: “This is a way to show that we really do care about the young people that we work with.”

Plus, he said: “When I was at college myself I fell into the bracket where I was able to access additional financial support, so helping college students who may be struggling feels like something that is close to my own heart.”

Etc.’s student support and wellbeing manager, Lorraine Preston, said: “This was an incredibly generous offer.

“Through Covid, it has been a difficult time for many people and as a college group we are always working to find ways to support our students and overcome any barriers to learning.

“These packages will help provide a little boost to those that need it most. We would like to say a massive thank you.”
