Stockton Riverside College and Redcar and Cleveland College are inviting you to take a look at some of the latest vacancies at their Big Apprenticeship Event.

Are you or a young person in your family looking for an apprenticeship?

Take a look at the latest vacancies being delivered in partnership with Stockton Riverside College and Redcar and Cleveland College.

With opportunities in everything from business administration to childcare, beauty therapy to IT, no matter what your age, this could be the route into the industry you love.

And this week the colleges are holding their Big Apprenticeship job fair, offering you the chance to find out more about apprenticeships, the latest vacancies and meet some of the employers looking for new recruits.

“I would definitely recommend the apprenticeship route,” said Hannah, who started her own career as a business administration apprentice, working at Stockton Riverside College.

“It opened up so many doors to me, I could have worked in finance, IT, administration…”

As it turns out, Hannah got the opportunity to move into human resources, which she found to be the perfect fit.

“Human resources is everywhere but I don’t think I had even heard the term or the word personnel, before I started at the college,” she said.

“I do remember thinking to myself when I came for that first interview that I would like to be on the other side of the desk.”

Determined to prove herself, Hannah completed level 2 and 3 apprenticeship qualifications at the college, secured a permanent job, plus two promotions, and even got the chance to study level 3 and level 5 courses in human resources.

Now just 23, Hannah has already worked in human resources at three large organisations across the Tees Valley, moving from the college to Cleveland Police and this summer joining the ranks as a HR advisor with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.

While she has worked hard, starting work at 16 and “learning the ropes from scratch”, she said: “I know that I am fortunate and I am so grateful, for all of the opportunities I have been given.”

Jack, 21, is also fast becoming an advocate of the apprenticeship route.  He is working towards his ideal career after starting out as an apprentice in digital marketing.

A former art student, he was on the brink of giving up on his ambitions when he was offered an apprenticeship with Middlesbrough IT firm, AD Network Solutions (ADNS).

“There is a lot of competition for apprenticeships,” said Jack. But, as he found, if you keep trying and work hard, it can offer a fast track into your chosen field.

For Jack it has been an eye opener as his role has seen him pick up an array of new skills, including getting to grips with the technical side of the company.

“I’ve a done so many things that I wouldn’t have dreamed I could do a year and a half ago,” he said.

“I even set up a training resource, building a sharepoint that links clients with training resources.”

The best part is, “I really enjoyed it,” he said.

With a permanent job offer now on the cards, Jack said: “An apprenticeship proved the right move for me. There are a few different paths I can now choose, either into a sales role, or on the more technical side, there’s such a wide scope. It is fantastic to be with a company that can give you those options.”
