...And they will be cheering on former Stockton Riverside College classmates in their festive performance of Peter Pan the Musical at ARC, Stockton

Heading home this Christmas Kadie and Emie are Stockton Riverside College’s own “Little Women” with very big plans.

The pair, who both secured places at The Arden School of Theatre, can’t wait to catch up with former classmates, and cheer them on as they take to the stage in the college’s acting for stage and screen students’ performance of Peter Pan the Musical at ARC.

It doesn’t seem like five minutes since Kadie and Emie were leading the show themselves, both taking the lead role of Jo in the college’s summer performance of Little Women.

Now looking forward to bright futures filled with big ambitions, they are quick to sing the praises of the college and the course that helped get them there.

Describing the acting team, made up of both first and second years, as “a class full of best friends”, Kadie said: “You really couldn’t top it, it was the best experience.  It was having the chance to be able to do something you love every day.”

Emie added: “I just loved it.  Acting is my favourite thing to do, so I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my college days.”

As best friends it seemed fortunate the pair should both secure the lead role in the college’s performance of Little Women.

But fortune seems to have continued to shine on them as, with just a handful of places available at Arden, and hundreds auditioning for them nationally, the pair both got selected for their first-choice theatre school together.

Now returning to Teesside for the festive break, they will no doubt get to share their experiences with former classmates.  But, most importantly, they are looking forward to being in the audience to show their continued support.

With ambitions to make a living in film and TV, or on the stage, both are brimming with excitement for what the future holds.

In college Kadie said she got to try a whole range of roles, but with its old language and hundreds of lines, the part of Jo was by far the most challenging.  Added to that the show was turned around in just six weeks.

“It doesn’t sound a lot, but that is what it’s like in the real world, so it was a really valuable experience,” she said.

With long days and indeed weeks of rehearsals, looking back at a whole string of performances, Emie said: “Jo in Little Women was so technical, there was so much emotion, and it was such a big story to tell, you didn’t want to get it wrong.”

Then there’s the likes of the Christmas production of The Wizard of Oz. “That was two shows a day for two weeks!” she said.

Few have a better insight into how the college’s current acting students will now be feeling as they prepare to take to the stage at ARC for the three-day run of Peter Pan.

Emie added: “It is hard work, and it can be nerve wracking, but it’s exciting and there is nothing like the feeling you get at the end of a show!”
