A massive thank you goes to Cleveland Fire Brigade’s Andrew Bright to mark 10 years of delivering vital safety messages to students across the group.

As Learn and Live Co-ordinator with the fire service, Andrew regularly shares interactive and informative sessions in topics including road safety, fire safety, water safety, alcohol and drugs awareness and workplace safety.

Having delivered approximately 800 sessions to learners on the group’s The Prince’s Trust Team programme alone, Andrew said: “It is a privilege working on behalf of Cleveland Fire Brigade delivering our enrichment sessions and seeing young people develop as they set out into the world of work, education or training.”

The sessions form part of Cleveland Fire Brigade’s work to raise awareness of these essential safety messages in the community and help reduce risk.

Over the last decade, Andrew explained they have seen the workshops at the colleges evolve, not least with the development of new technology.

He said: “We have embraced new technologies such as Virtual Reality equipment which has helped us engage with new audiences, whilst also using online platforms to test received knowledge and understanding.”

Andrew says all of this has seen the service’s delivery evolve, moving away from content which was more graphic and shocking to adopt a more balanced behavioural change approach that enables students to learn how to better take control of risky situations and feel empowered to speak up.

Matt Wigmore, Prince’s Trust coordinator at the Etc. said: “Through Andrew’s dedication and personable delivery style, many students have benefited from the topics discussed and the reflective practice he promotes. We look forward to continuing to benefit from this strong partnership with the fire brigade.”

Stockton Riverside College principal Lesley Graham said: “We are thankful to Andrew and Cleveland Fire Brigade for the effort and support they have given for the last 10 years, sharing these important safety messages with our students and learners.”

Look out for our National Road Safety Week event taking place next week.
