Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services Level 3
Do you have the discipline and determination it takes to work in the Uniformed Public Service industries? Find out by signing up to one of our courses. Focusing on key services including fire & rescue, the police, ambulance, prison services, customs and excise and the armed forces you’ll be given a realistic introduction to what working life is really like in the uniformed services and get the skills to prepare you for this type of work.

What will you do?
Lessons include a mix of class-room based study and outdoor activities, expeditions and group work. You’ll learn about the demands of working in the different public service industries, improving health and fitness, outdoor activities, as well as communication skills, team work and time management.
How will you learn?
You will learn through a range of practical units followed by opportunities to practice and develop skills and experience outside of the classroom environment. This could include residential Public Services ‘look at life’ trips, adventurous activity courses and other educational trips.
How are you assessed?
Written assignments and observation of practical performance by subject tutors.
A minimum of four GCSEs Grade 4/C or above and they must include Maths and English.
Why English and Maths matter…
Working in the public service industries your role could involve writing reports, understanding the law, filling in time sheets, working out rotas, calculating response times and medicine dosages.
What do you need to know?
You will get the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s award along side your main study programme.
You could go to university and study a relevant degree or apply to join one of the many Public Services.

What kit/uniform do I need?
All Public Service students will be expected to wear a Stockton Riverside College Bede Sixth Form T-shirt, along with tracksuit bottoms or shorts and suitable footwear.
