ILM Level 4 Diploma for School Business Managers
Designed specifically for school business professionals and aims to provide the knowledge and skills required for career development. It will also enable school business management professionals to manage school resources more efficiently and effectively; evaluate the nature of school business operations within schools and gain specialist expertise in business support services.
This programme is open to all schools available for new or existing school business managers, as well as those already in post in a similar role providing support to the school management team and governors (such as Finance Manager, Office Manager, School Administrator, Business Support Officer, Bursar, HR Manager etc).
This programme is offered via two routes:
- ILM Level 4 School Business Professional (apprenticeship standard over 18 months)
- ILM Level 4 Diploma for School Business Managers (classroom-based knowledge only, over 1 year)
Duration: 1 year or 18 months, depending on route
Starting date: September 2019 or various, depending on route
What will I do?
Six mandatory modules for the School Business Professional Apprenticeship, which are covered to equip learners with knowledge, skills and behaviours. There will be work-based assessment against the six modules, using a range of assessment methods, to prepare learners for the End Point Assessment:
- Leading Support Services in a School
- Finance in a School
- Procurement in a School
- Supporting School Infrastructure Management*
- Supporting Human Resource Management in a School*
- Marketing in a School*
*For the Level 4 knowledge-only programme, there are 3 mandatory modules, and one optional module from those highlighted above. You will be assessed by a knowledge-based assignment for each of the 4 modules undertaken.
How will I learn?
The knowledge elements of both options is delivered through tutor-led classroom sessions or workshops, practical sessions, tutorials, and virtual learning environments (VLEs). There will also be guest speakers from the industry, relating to the modules delivered.
The ILM Level 5 Diploma for School Business Leaders or alternatively the ILM Level 5 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Leadership and Management.
You should have achieved a level 3 qualification and have a desire to progress into School Business Management. Mature students are welcome to apply and relevant work experience will be taken into account. Maths and English at GCSE 4/C or above, or an equivalent qualification.
What else do I need to know?
Various start dates throughout the year for the apprenticeship option. The classroom-based knowledge delivery starts in September 2019 and lasts for 1 year.
