A Level

What will you do?

You’ll develop a thorough understanding of business theory and principles through our lively and active lessons. As well as making business decisions based on real life scenarios you’ll be expected to justify those decisions and back them up with sound reasoning based on evidence.


How will I learn?

Lessons in business are active and require you to participate and put forward your ideas. You will be expected to justify decisions and back them up with sound reasoning based on evidence. The course consists of four 70 minute lessons per week.


How am I assessed?

Assessment in lessons will be through both short and long answer essay. Exam arrangements for 2017 – your final grade will be gained from your performance in 3 exams at the end of the second year.


What’s next?

Moving on to university you can further develop your business knowledge or specialise in a preferred field. Future careers include management, international business, marketing, or you could go on to launch your own business.


You need:

GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English

Language is recommended.

You are already more of an expert in the world of Business than you currently realise.


Reasons to join us:

OCR NVQ Diploma in Business Administration Level 2

What will you do?

To attain the full award a minimum of 21 credits must be achieved, and to do so candidates must complete four mandatory units and a range of optional units chosen from the Level 2 selections. This qualification is very flexible in its structure enabling the organisation and individual to choose the optional units which best suit their work situation and job role.

How will I learn?

Learners can choose from a bank of optional units, related to the tasks they carry out in their job role, which show their ability to contribute to the running of an office.
How am I assessed?

Candidates plan a programme of development and assessment with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that they are competent and knowledgeable about the tasks they carry out in their working role and will include assessment in the workplace. Tutorial support is available within the course.

What’s next?

Upon successful completion of the Level 2, candidates can progress to the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration. They can only progress to level 3 if their job role allows.

The Level 3 qualification is intended for individuals whose role involves carrying out administrative duties with a considerable amount of responsibility and autonomy.  The individual will be contributing to the development and implementation of administrative services within the organisation, and have a substantial amount of administrative experience. An extensive amount of knowledge regarding the organisation individuals are working for, (including policies, procedures, legislation) and the ability to explain, describe and identify why, how, when, where and who for/with tasks are carried out, is essential to fulfil the criteria requirements at Level 3 and therefore it is imperative that candidates are working in an appropriate permanent job role to meet the standards needed for this qualification.

If you are looking for a work-related qualification in Business and Management to study alongside your job, this is the course for you. You will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of the issues involved in business management, including marketing, finance and people management.The emphasis is on developing skills relevant to the real world of work, and making practical links between theory and the demands of business management. You will develop general skills in communication, team working, problem solving and analysis.

What will you do?

Year 1 covers the main business functions plus personal development module. In year 2 you will focus on international business, operations and entrepreneurial skills.

Apprenticeship

Level 4 Diploma in Business Administration

This level 4 Business Administration apprenticeship is equivalent to a Foundation Degree. Ideal for those in a senior or supervisory role within an office environment, this apprenticeship will provide apprentices with the skills needed to be able to contribute
to a business at a strategic level.

Entry Requirements:

There are no specific academic entry requirements for this qualification; candidates will need to have a significant amount of experience working in a business environment, so that they have a solid foundation of skills to build upon.

Job Roles:

Office Manager, Administration Team Leader, Personal Assistant, Business Development Executive

Duties:

Duties can vary for different organisation however suggested duties include:
• Managing an office facility
• Chairing meetings
• Coordinating events
• Monitoring operational processes
• Communicating with customers
• Managing budgets

Assessment:

You will be allocated a course tutor/assessor to provide guided learning and support with assignments. You will be observed in the workplace by your allocated assessor.

Business Administration Apprenticeships

If you have strong communication and organisational skills and are a team player then a Business Administration apprenticeship may be perfect for you. You will ensure the smooth-running of your workplace by completing the day-to-day tasks of a busy office environment.

Main Duties:

As a level 2 apprentice, duties may include:
• Making and receiving telephone calls
• Handling mail
• Record keeping
• Using electronic message systems
• Use of office equipment
• Taking notes
• Greeting visitors

As a level 3 apprentice, duties may include:
• Organising meetings and events
• Producing documents
• Managing resources, office facilities and equipment
• Developing presentations
• Managing diaries and organising travel
• Taking minutes and writing up notes

Assessment:

You will be allocated a course tutor/assessor to provide guided learning and support with assignments. You will be observed in the workplace by your allocated assessor.

You need:

Apprenticeships require a good level of English, maths and/or ICT. Our initial assessment and your GCSE results will help inform us of your ability and what support we can offer to get you to the level required.

If you do not hold the relevant GCSEs you will need to complete the Functional Skills qualifications as part of your apprenticeship.

You must be:

  • at least 16
  • a UK resident
  • in employment. We can help with this

To undertake a level 3 apprenticeship, you need a level 2 qualification or to have experience in a relevant field.

We offer a wide range of projects and you may have the chance to work with local employers and gain valuable experience working within the college environment. Social and personal development

You’ll get the opportunity to develop a range of additional skills including the ability to work independently and as part of a team, organisation, time management, putting together and delivering presentations, CV writing, research and career skills and use of ICT and our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
