Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Photographic Make-up     

The main aim of the Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Photographic Make-up is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge in order to provide Hair and Photographic make-up to the general public and to gain employment in the Hair and Photographic Make-up industry.

What will you do?

You will learn skills including styling, setting and dressing of hair. You will develop the skills in the Art of Photographic makeup and how to apply makeup correctly. This course also involves skin tanning techniques and the shaping and colouring of eyebrows. You will also learn about the importance of client care and communication skills this also includes health and safety.

How will I learn?

Lessons include a combination of practical demonstrations, theory and e-learning. You are continually assessed throughout the course by building your e-portfolio of work, which contains your evidence of your competence in each of the technical and related skills.

How am I assessed?

You will be assessed carrying out practical assessments and observations, oral questioning, theory/multiple choice tests. You will carry out online exams while building an e-portfolio.

You need:

NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing/Beauty Level 1 or three GCSEs grade 4/C.

19+ exemptions may be made to adult returners with experience in the workplace.

Diploma in Beauty Therapy Level 2

How are you assessed?

You will be assessed carrying out practical assessments and observations, oral questioning, theory/multiple choice tests. You will carry out on-line exams and building an e-portfolio.

You need:

Beauty Therapy Level 1 qualification. Or if you have GCSE’s grade C/4or above in English and Math’s, or if you are 19+ you can start your studies at this level.

GSCE grade 4 or above in English Maths, IT or Science or you are 19+ you can start you studies at this level.

What do you need to know?

You could also gain this qualification through an apprenticeship.

A keen interest in the beauty therapy industry. Grade 3/E in Maths and English.

Apprenticeship

An Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to get into the world of work and earn real money whilst gaining nationally recognised qualifications.

If you are a school leaver, currently unemployed or looking to start a new career, Stockton Riverside College can help you to find the right Apprenticeship and employer for you.

Beauty Therapy Apprenticeships

At level 2, this apprenticeship will provide you with basic beauty therapy skills by assisting and supporting senior therapists. At level 3, you will learn new techniques such as body massage and electronic treatments. You will learn how to carry out a range of treatments in a safe environment in a range of locations including beauty salons, hospitals, care homes, cruise ships, spas and health clubs.

Main Duties:

As a level 2 apprentice, you will learn how to carry out treatments such as:
• Facial skin care
• Pedicure
• Manicure
• Eyebrow & Eyelash treatments
• Waxing

As a level 3 apprentice, you will learn how to carry out treatments such as:
• Massage, hair removal, facial and electrical body treatments
• Designing and creating make-up and camouflage services
• Eyelash extension treatments
• Providing tanning services
• Aromatherapy and stone therapy
• Waxing

Assessment:

You will be allocated a course tutor/assessor to provide guided learning and support with assignments. You will be observed in the workplace by your allocated assessor.

You need:

Apprenticeships require a good level of English, maths and/or ICT. Our initial assessment and your GCSE results will help inform us of your ability and what support we can offer to get you to the level required.

If you do not hold the relevant GCSEs you will need to complete the Functional Skills qualifications as part of your apprenticeship.

You must be:

  • at least 16
  • a UK resident
  • in employment. We can help with this

To undertake a level 3 apprenticeship, you need a level 2 qualification or to have experience in a relevant field.

Duration:

Level 2: 12 months

Nail Services Apprenticeships

Dreaming of becoming a Nail Technician? Then this Nail Services apprenticeship is the apprenticeship for you. You’ll learn how to perfect the manicure and have the chance to be creative with different nail art techniques.

Main Duties:

As a level 2 apprentice you’ll carry out treatments including:

  • Manicures
  • Pedicures
  • Nail art services
  • Nail enhancements

As a level 3 apprentice you’ll learn how to:

  • Maintain nails using UV gel or liquid and powder
  • Design nail art
  • Airbrush
  • Use an electric file

Assessment:

You will be allocated a course tutor/assessor to provide guided learning and support with assignments. You will be observed in the workplace by your allocated assessor.

You need:

Apprenticeships require a good level of English, maths and/or ICT. Our initial assessment and your GCSE results will help inform us of your ability and what support we can offer to get you to the level required.

Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and Maths. These are essential skills that all employers value. Your tutor can answer any questions you have regarding this.

Work experience/employability

We want to help you develop real skills for real jobs. That’s why we work closely with a wide range of employers to ensure all of our courses give you the skills that they are looking for in their future employees. We know that getting real experience of your chosen field is vital that’s why we build practical skills and hands-on experience into our courses. Our dedicated online program ‘My Work Search’ will help prepare you for future job opportunities.

Social and personal development

You’ll get the opportunity to develop a range of additional skills including the ability to work independently and as part of a team, customer service skills, use of ICT and our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). You will also take part in charity fundraising events and lots of enrichment and promotional activities. Your tutor will be able to tell you more about course specific developments.
