Introduction

This qualification will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in the school environment. It is suitable for learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning including teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants.

What will I learn

You will study units such as: • How to support children and young people with SEND • How to support speech, communication and language development • How to assist bilingual learners

How will I learn

You will attend college for three hours a week and will take part in a variety of taught sessions, workshops and placement opportunities. To gain the qualification, learners will need to achieve at least a PASS grade in each of the academic units and will complete at least 360 hours in a placement either on a paid or voluntary basis working with children aged 5 years +.
