Course overview
The T-Level qualification is an exciting brand new two-year, full-time course which has been designed in partnership with businesses and employers that is aimed to give you the knowledge and skills to support your move into a career in early years and childcare or schools.
You will study core components which provide a high-level foundation of knowledge and skills that are relevant to all occupational specialisms within the field of childcare and education. Some of these core topics and ideas will then be studied in more depth in year 2 when you will be able to choose to focus on either early years education or assisting teaching within schools.
You will also undertake a high quality, structured and outcomes-focused industry placement, this is an integral part of the new T-Level programme. The industry placement will be aligned to your career aspirations identified in your career plan which will be 750 hours and could include up to two employers.
High quality industry placements will support you to develop a breadth of new skills to provide you with a valuable opportunity to personally progress towards your career goals.
Course information
YEAR 1
You will sit 2 examinations in the summer term:
Paper A: 2 hours, assessing knowledge of Elements 1 – 6
Paper B: 2 hours, assessing knowledge of Elements 7 – 12
You will also write an assignment in controlled conditions for the Employer-set project (ESP). The brief and tasks are based around education and childcare and will be chosen by the student ahead of the assessment.
Employer-set project (ESP): 12 hours (split across different sessions) assessing Elements 1 – 12 and the following 4 core skills:
Core skill 1:
Communicate information clearly to engage children and young people, for example to stimulate discussion and to secure understanding.
Core skill 2:
Work with others to plan and provide activities to meet children and young people’s needs.
Core skill 3:
Use formative and summative assessment to track children and students’ progress to plan and shape educational opportunities
Core skill 4:
How to assess and manage risks to your own and others’ safety when planning activities
You will be graded A* – E or U for both of the above components. A re-sit opportunity will also be available.
YEAR 2
You will be set 3 assignments which cover a combination of written tasks completed in exam conditions and observations in your placement setting.
You will be graded either Pass/Merit or Distinction for each of the 3 assignments.
Results from examinations and ESP in year 1 and the 3 synoptic assignments in year 2 are aggregated to produce an overall result for the T Level Technical Qualification in Education and Childcare.
Progression onto university to study primary education, early childhood studies or other related degree programmes, higher apprenticeships or employment in the education or childcare sectors.
A relevant level 2 diploma or five GCSEs grades 4 or above. These must include a minimum of grade 4 in English and Math’s and if choosing the assisting learning pathway, Science at grade 4 is also required, plus a successful interview.

You will learn and develop your skills by using a range of exciting and innovative teaching and learning methods including projects, presentations, displays and innovative use of VR, bringing your curriculum experience alive.
