Fees, Funding and Loans

Paying Your Course Fee

Further Education Courses
If you are in receipt of one of the benefits listed below, there may be no course fee to pay:

  • Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
  • Employment Support Allowance (ESA) in the Work Related Activity Group only.

 

Courses may also be free if you are in receipt of one of the benefits listed below provided you are unemployed and looking to gain skills which will help you enter the workforce:

  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit (not single person’s discount)
  • Working Tax Credit (but not in employment)

(Evidence of your benefit will be required at the time of enrolment)

There are also full course fee discounts available based on the level of qualification held for these groups:

  • Level 2 Entitlement 19 – 23 year old learners studying for their first full level 2 qualification
  • Level 3 Entitlement 19 – 23 year old learners studying for their first level 3 qualification

To qualify for this fee discount you must not already hold the following qualifications:

 

Level 2 Entitlement

  • 5 GCSEs grade A* to C, 5 ‘O’ level passes, 5 GCSE Grade 1
  • 2 AS levels or more, 1 A level or more
  • NVQ 2, 3 or 4
  • Access course
  • First degree/Higher degree
  • Edexel/BTEC 1st Diploma or higher
  • City & Guilds Craft part 2
  • Intermediate GNVQ or higher
  • HND/HNC

Level 3 Entitlement

  • NVQs at level 3
  • One or more A levels
  • OCR National Diplomas and Extended National Diplomas
  • Access to HE certificate
  • One or more A level double awards
  • International Baccalaureate

Further funding options

All our courses have an attached fee. You have a number of payment options including:

  • Paying for your course upfront yourself
  • Gaining sponsorship from an employer
  • Applying for a student loan

Advanced Learner Loan

If you are planning to study a level 3-6 further education course or access to higher education diploma and you are aged 19+ you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. Students can apply for a loan to meet the upfront costs of their qualification, which will be paid directly to the college on their behalf.

Repayments only start when earning an annual salary of £27,295* or more. If the loan is for an access to higher education diploma and you subsequently go on to successfully complete a higher education course, you won’t have to pay back your Advanced Learner Loan.

Part-time Student Finance

Part-time students undertaking designated higher education courses may be eligible to take out a yearly tuition fee loan from Student Finance England. Your course will be free at the point of entry and you only make repayments if you are earning over £25,000* per year once you have completed your course. Courses designated for tuition fees are first degrees, foundation degrees and higher national certificates (HNCs). For further information and eligibility criteria visit: www.gov.uk/student-finance

If you are studying for a Teesside University award you may be eligible for a student loan from the Student Loan Company (SLC) to cover the cost of fees. For more details, visit www.tees.ac.uk/funding, contact Teesside University on 01642 342 297, or email: studentfinance@tees.ac.uk.

Full-time Student Finance

Students on full-time programmes can also apply to the Student Loans Company for a maintenance loan to help with living costs that will support study. You will only start repaying your tuition fee and maintenance loans once you’ve left your course and your income is over £25,000* per year.
