Level 3 Extended Diploma in Costume and Production Design

Course overview

Are you passionate about the world of theatre and TV production, but prefer working behind the scenes? Our Level 3 Costume and Production course is the perfect fit for students who dream of designing and creating costumes, props, and sets for film, TV, and theatre performances.

Throughout the course, you’ll work collaboratively with other departments, gaining a deep understanding of a career backstage in the performing arts industry. Our live assignment briefs offer you the opportunity to put your creativity and problem-solving skills to the test, developing a diverse set of practical skills that will prepare you for a career in this exciting field.

You will research, design, sketch and construct, learning how to use a range of media, materials and techniques to create amazing costumes, sets and props.

You will work collaboratively with other areas in our APTA department, including Film and production arts to work on live performances and briefs.

Four GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and/or maths or a relevant level 2 qualification.

Course information

You will establish a portfolio of work across each year of study, along with final pieces, which in the 1st year is externally set and marked. There will also be a range of practical tasks for all students to actively take part in.

Basic art and design equipment will be required. You will be provided with a list at induction. You will be provided with a list at induction that can be purchased from the college.

If you do not already have an English and Maths GCSE grade 4-9, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main program of study*.
