Course overview
If you’re looking to develop your creative skills and open up a world of exciting opportunities, you’ve come to the right place. Our Level 2 art and design course will give you the skills and experience you need to draw yourself a bright future in a range of fields, including design, fashion, illustration, tattooing and more.
We have excellent links with industry and local businesses, and you’ll benefit from guest speakers and work-related projects. By the end of this course, you’ll have a solid foundation in various artistic media and be well-equipped to pursue further study in the industry.
You will carry out a range of projects to further develop your skills in drawing & painting, sculpture, textiles, illustration, and graphics. You will also visit exhibitions, have a go at location work, see your own work exhibited and complete a work placement.
Course information
You will develop a portfolio through a mix of practical sessions and theory lessons. You will then write a final project proposal and produce a final piece to be exhibited in the end of year exhibition.
You can progress onto a creative Level 3 Diploma, including our Extended Diploma in Art & Design or Costume and Production Design.
Four GCSEs at grade 3. Or a relevant Level 1 qualification or equivalent.
You may need to study English or Maths as part of your course. This will be discussed with you at interview.
Basic art and design equipment will be required. You will be provided with a list at induction that can be purchased from the college.
If you do not already have an English and Maths GCSE grade 4-9, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main program of study*.

It’s full circle for PGCE student Curtis who having studied art at Stockton Riverside College
for three years is back and training to be an art teacher.
When asked why he wanted to come back to his routes for his teaching placement, the
24-year-old said it was an easy choice: “I loved my time here as a student and I wanted to
come back and have the same positive effect that Liz and Nicola had on me when I was a
student here. They were very supportive and gave me the confidence to try new things and
understand that it’s ok to make mistakes.”
