Course overview
This qualification enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. Successful completion of the units will allow learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects.
This qualification covers:
Understanding Dementia
Understand how Person-Centred Approaches are used to Underpin the Care and Support of Individuals with Dementia
Principles of Communication and Interaction in Dementia Care and Support
Supporting Positive Interaction, Occupation and Activity in Dementia Care
Principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Dementia Care and Support
Understand how to Support Individuals with Dementia to Exercise Choice and Rights
Principles of the Administration of Medication and Well-being of Individuals with Dementia
Course information
Assessment involves completion of relevant workbooks or units which are completed as distance learning and submitted online or posted to the college.
Upon completion of the course, students can apply for other distance learning programmes or where appropriate use their newly acquired knowledge in practice.
- You must be at least 19 years old.
- You must have lived within England for a minimum of three years and/or have residency status.
- It is highly recommended that you have completed a level 2 in this subject area and already hold GCSE grade 4 / C in English.
The course is £811; however, you can study for free if any of the following applies:
- You are 19 or over and do not already have a level 3 qualification.
- You already have a level 3 qualification or higher but earn below the National Living Wage annually.
- You already have a level 3 qualification or higher but are unemployed You must currently live in the Tees Valley area to qualify for any of the above funding. If none of the above applies to you, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from the Student Loans Company.
