Introduction

Would you love to work in the creative makeup industry? With our production arts course you could work in theatre, TV, film, photography or move on to higher education. You will gain hands-on experience by working on projects and assignments that are linked to real theatre, film and fashion show productions. You'll take part in a large exhibition and have the chance to showcase your work on live models. Every year our students attend the International Makeup Trade Show in London and work with huge local organisations such as the Festival of Thrift & Teesside University on fashion shows and photoshoots.

What will I learn

You will see your ideas come to life as you take them from planning to production. You will develop skills in creative makeup application including special effects, fashion, catwalk, period, body painting and postiche. You will also learn about production planning, including research skills, continuity, design, health and safety, script development and more.

How will I learn

You'll learn through working on projects and assignments which are linked to real theatre, film and fashion show productions, you will gain the wide variety of skills and knowledge that will prepare you for the make-up industry.

What's next

You could progress on to a foundation degree in media makeup or related production arts subject. You can secure work in the television theatre or film industry, as a freelance makeup artist, or in photography studios, retail or teaching.
