Do you enjoy helping others? Do you want to work in a caring profession or go on to higher education? This academic Health & Social Care course carries UCAS points for Higher Education study and offers an insight into the many roles that exist in this industry. It will also help you develop the skills to study at a higher level or work in the health or care sector.
Your study sessions with vocationally experienced and qualified tutors will include group work activities, research tasks, role play, seminars, lectures and discussions. You will learn about meeting individual care needs, communicating effectively, lifespan development, physiological disorders and you will engage in work experience.
Course information
This CACHE year one certificate includes 9 units assessed through a variety of this CACHE year one certificate includes 9 units assessed through a variety of methods, including: one externally set and externally marked extended assessment; internally set and marked assignments including essays, reports and booklets. You will also be required to complete a minimum of 75 hours work placement in year one (& 100 hours in year 2).
You could broaden your knowledge and understanding of the key subjects within Health & Social Care by going on to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (year 2-essential for entry to HE) or you may choose to go on to an apprenticeship in the health or social care industries or find work in care related roles.
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths and grade 9-3 or equivalent in GCSE science and a satisfactory DBS check. If you are progressing from the Level 2 Extended Diploma you need an overall B grade as well as the above.
You will also need two references.
As part of the course you will have the opportunity to complete work experience placement in different settings.
The course is graded A*- D.
You will participate in a variety of activities including independent research tasks, display tasks, presentations and group work. You will also spend some time in real work settings gaining vital experience within health & social care.
