Course overview
This course is designed to help you become a skilled listener, equipping you with the essential communication and listening skills needed to support others effectively.
Through a mix of face-to-face lessons, hands-on activities, and weekly skills-based sessions, you will develop your listening abilities in a supportive and flexible learning environment. You will also have regular tutorials with experienced tutors, who are practising counsellors, offering personalised guidance throughout your learning journey.
Additional sessions on academic writing, digital literacy, and optional units such as alcohol awareness and stress awareness will further enhance your skills and knowledge.
Throughout the course, you will build an online portfolio to track your progress, with assessments including written assignments, group presentations, and practical demonstrations.
While the course focuses on developing your listening skills, it also offers the opportunity to continue your development along the path to becoming a counsellor, should you wish to pursue further study or professional work.

Course information
Assessment involves completion of relevant units which are completed as distance learning and submitted online.
Face to face skills sessions can be arranged if required through your dedicated tutor.
Upon completion of the course, students can apply for other distance learning programmes or where appropriate use their newly acquired knowledge in practice.
This qualification give you direct access to apply for our Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills.
- You must be at least 19 years old.
- You must have lived in England for a minimum of three years and/or have residency status.
- The course is free, but a £120 withdrawal or non-completion fee applies if you do not complete your course.
This course can only be studied online only via our distance learning platform.
