The construction skills Level 1 course gives students the chance to try a variety of construction trades to get a feel for each and decide on a more specialised career pathway that they would like to pursue.
If you’re thinking of a career in the construction industry but are unsure of which trade to specialise in, this course could be perfecr for you. Students will complete a minimum of six units covering a range of construction trads, including:
- Joinery
- Painting & Decorating
- Electrical
- Brickwork
- Health and Safety
Course information
Once completed, you will have a good base of knowelege in construction, this could then lead onto progression to a level 2 diploma in your chosen trade area. Or you could apply for a level 2 property maintenance operative apprenticeship working for a local company.
There are no formal entry requirments, however, we have high standards and this will encourage the correct work ethic that the modern construction industry requires.
If you don’t already have an English and maths GCSE grade 9-4/A*-C, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main program of study*.

Students will be interviewed prior to starting the Construction Skills course.
We supply all required PPE and materials. All you need is a pen and a positive attitude.
The course consists of both practical and theory sessions.
Students will engage in a wide range of activities including the use of technology, construction materials, and tools.
