Course overview
If you are someone who loves working with your hands and being outdoors, then a career in Bricklaying could be for you! Our Level 1 Course is the perfect starting point, it will equip you with the essential skills needed to kick-start a fulfilling career in bricklaying or construction. There is always high demand for bricklayers who are reliable, efficient, and passionate about their craft.
You will learn basic bricklaying skills, creating a range of brickwork structures, using different bonding methods. You will learn how to lay blocks to line, gauge and level. You will also learn about the construction of cavity walls, safe working practices, quantities, and communication.
Course information
You will undertake a series of practical and theory end of unit assessments. Theory assessments are multiple choice questions. Practical has five different tasks to complete along with risk assessments and method statements. Your practical assessments will include blockwork, brickwork corner and brickwork straight wall. Cavity walls and solid walls are additional extra credits.
Progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying or apply for apprenticeship opportunities with enhanced bricklaying skills
A keen interest in Bricklaying and four GCSEs graded between 9-1 would be desirable.
If you don’t already have an English and Maths GCSE grade 9-4, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main program of study*.

This programme of study involves other essential elements such as Maths, English, tutorials, preparation for employment, enrichment and work experience.
All safety equipment provided
The course is taught using both practical and theoretical methods. We will start with the basics in practical and build confidence before moving onto more technical work. In the classroom we will use interactive games and model bricks to assist learning.
