Course overview

This level 1 courses are an excellent way to develop the necessary skills and gain practical knowledge to apply to a working environment. So, if you’re ready to take the first step towards a rewarding career in early years and education, look no further!
You will begin to develop the skills needed to work with babies and young children. You will cover subjects including development, safeguarding, health and safety and organising activities, you will understand how children develop and learn effective techniques for interacting with young children.
Course information
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include a portfolio of evidence, written assignments, posters, presentations and professional discussion.
A minimum of three GCSEs – grade 2 or above, including English Language and Maths.
If you do not already have an English and maths GCSE grade 9-4, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main program of study*.

In addition to industry specialised work placements, our students can also engage in a range of enrichment activities to help toward your personal and social development! In previous years out students enjoyed trips to Billingham Forum’s GoClimb and their ice rink. We also invite guest speakers in throughout the year.
The qualification is delivered through a range of both theory and practical sessions, enabling learners to obtain the skills required to work with young children.
