Course overview

Functional Skills are a great way to build confidence, improve skills and give you essential English skills for everyday life and work. The course is taught online through very detailed, clear, well-organised materials which enable you to study each week at a time that is suitable for you. We have experienced tutors who can support you no matter what level you are already at. You may be a complete beginner or just want to refresh your memory and gain an up to date, nationally recognised, qualification. We can support you.

Individual learning plans covering specific problem areas such as:

  • Spelling
  • Punctuation
  • Grammar
  • Letter writing
  • Report writing
  • Improving reading skills
  • Developing communication skills.

<p>All students will need either access to a laptop or tablet with internet.</p><p>No formal entry requirements are necessary. All learners will be required to take an initial and diagnostic assessment to establish working level which will be arranged at enrolment.</p><p>Free, for those who do not have an A* to C /9-4 grade GCSE.</p>

Course information

You will belong to an online class and will have your own tutor who gives you help and support throughout the course. Each week you receive a Microsoft Teams message which explains what work needs to be done that week. You will submit your work to your tutor who marks it and gives detailed advice and feedback.

You will also be expected to complete two mock exams at the college.

  • Examinations in Reading and Writing (you will be required to sit these examinations in college).
  • Speaking & Listening tasks (this can be assessed in college or over Microsoft Teams).
