On Track for a Career in Rail – Alain’s Journey

Having completed his first shift as a track operative in 2025, Alain is celebrating an incredible milestone this year – 100 shifts in the rail industry – following the completion of our Rail Academy.

Prior to enrolling, Alain wasn’t in employment. After a previous successful learner sent him details of the Rail Academy at Stockton Riverside College, he decided to take the leap.

Despite initial challenges with travel, Alain describes the support he received from Stockton Riverside College and Athena Skills Academy as amazing. This support continued throughout the programme and beyond completion, helping him take the next step onto the rail career ladder.

Careers in the rail industry are diverse, with opportunities across engineering and maintenance, operations, customer service and corporate roles. Hands-on courses like ours allow learners to develop practical skills and learn from experienced industry professionals.
