Would you travel 50 miles for the perfect course? CIPD student Melanie did and hasn’t looked back.
The 29-year-old from Morpeth wasn’t fazed by the commute to college if it meant she was going to be joining somewhere where she
would be learning from ‘a great tutor’. Before studying at Stockton Riverside College, Melanie had been thinking about doing the CIPD Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management for a while and when her employer offered it to her she jumped at the chance. She said: “When they said I could do it I started looking at local colleges but decided Stockton Riverside College was the best, especially when I found out Emma was the tutor. I knew her through work and knew that I would love learning from her.”
Working as a Principal Consultant at Sullivan Brown Resourcing Partners, Melanie wanted to learn more about the industry she already works in: “I have always worked in HR, I recruit for HR professionals and network with the CIPD. I really wanted to build my knowledge and gain the qualification.”
She continued: “It was hard work but I really enjoyed it. I was able to fit it in around work doing an evening a week. Emma has been great, she didn’t just teach theory she gave practical examples of how it can be applied at work which was invaluable. She brought everything to life.”
We asked Melanie whether she would recommend our CIPD to anyone thinking about doing it, she said: “Definitely! It helps as part of your job and it’s really flexible. With me living quite far away and sometimes not being able make it down, Emma has been really accommodating doing Skype calls and she’s always on the end of an email or phone call.”
