If a career in computing sounds like your dream job, take inspiration from Andy.

The 28-year-old is working as an IT technician after choosing to study a foundation degree in computer networking at Stockton Riverside College.

Looking to make a career change, Andy said: “I was looking for something to do and this was something that I had an interested in.”

Finding he enjoyed the technical aspects of the course, it proved the right choice. Working in retail at the time, Andy was able to fit his studies around work.

And by the end of the course he said: “It was only an extra year of study at Teesside University to get the Bachelor of Science so I thought I might as well.”

Little did he know a job would come up at the university, first as part of a graduate programme and then the job was extended.

Now working full-time at the university while also studying a Master’s Degree in Computer Security and Networks, he said it has been hard work but well worth the effort.

“You just have to be willing to apply yourself,” he said.
