Safer Internet Day 2016Students across the world are being asked to play their part for a better internet as today marks the international ‘Safer Internet Day.’

Youngsters are being encouraged to think twice about how they can contribute to a better internet and become a confident and safe user of the web.

Stockton Riverside College is taking part in the day by offering students access to a range of materials that allow users to engage with the web in a safe way and advice on what to do if you have a concern.

A local security expert said: “Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to take a look at your ‘digital footprint’. Your digital footprint is like a real footprint; you leave it behind wherever you go online.

“The College’s Safer Internet page has some really useful links to advice on how best to stay safe. Even though you’re probably used to checking your social media profiles, app accounts and computer/tablet settings, you may be less aware of what information is available to others outside of these platforms and how you can take action including blocking nuisance telephone calls, emails, SMS or junk mail among others. ”
