Generous students have been doing their bit for a good cause over at The Skills Academy.

The Level 1 IT students organised a charity raffle and activity stall to bring in cash for national disability charity Scope.

Instructor Simon Patterson said: “The event gave the students the chance to develop their digital communication skills.

“It required being organised, setting up the event, and then messaging shops to ask for contributions and then using Facebook to get the word out into the community.”

Together the team of seven students raised an impressive £120 for their chosen charity.

“I was over the moon for the students, showing the courage to go out and do something. Some are lacking in confidence but they all took part on the day, helping to make it a real success.”

This is the second year that the Level 1 IT students have raised money for Scope, with the students more than doubling last year’s total.

Simon said: “I can see it becoming an annual event, and each year we will try to better the year before.”

In a letter to the students a representative from Scope said: “We can’t thank you enough for all your time and effort helping disabled people and their families.”

“What a fantastic amount to raise. I hope you all had a great time and are really proud of what you did. It will have a big impact on our life-changing work.”
