Students were given the chance to experience airport life as Stockton Riverside College celebrated the achievements of some of the College’s high flyers.

More than 60 aviation students were joined by friends and family at the College’s Aviation Awards, hosted by Durham Tees Valley Airport.

“It has been a fantastic year for student success, both past and present, within the Aviation department,” said course leader, Catherine Carney.

With more students than ever progressing into jobs within the industry, she said: “It is testament to their continued hard work and dedication.”

The College’s annual aviation awards offer an opportunity to inspire and celebrate the achievements of existing students and those about to complete their studies.

Catherine said: “To hold the ceremony at Durham Tees Valley Airport is particularly special, as it offers students the chance to share with family and friends the type of environment they could go on to work in.”

Winners of this year’s Awards were Christopher Thomas, Sophie Hammond and Eloise Ross.

Rising Star Christopher, 30, of Stockton, said: “I have worked really hard so I feel really grateful to receive this award.

“It is a great course, it can be demanding at times, but the tutors are always there if you need support.”

High Flyer Sophie, 18, of Wensleydale, said: “To get this award shows that all of the hard work has paid off. It just goes to show if you put in the effort you can achieve.”

While Student of the Year, Eloise, 17, of Middleton St George, said: “It is unbelievable, I didn’t expect this at all, but I really appreciate it. The tutors have had a massive impact on my life and I have absolutely loved the course.”

Durham Tees Valley Airport Manager Shaun Woods said: “We have a good relationship with the College and are delighted to play our part in encouraging their students to pursue their ambitions to work in aviation.

“The event does give them a taste of the industry, the wide range of opportunities in what is a worldwide industry and the chance to meet some of those for whom the College has opened up great opportunities.”
