For candidates who are school leavers, a grade 3 (grade D) in this subject is required. For those who are speakers of languages (other than English) a Higher-Intermediate ESOL qualification is required. Full cost = £300 Depending on personal circumstances a college bursary may be available, please ask for more information.

Introduction

The GCSE Biology is a qualification which prepares people wanting to progress into teaching as allows the science requirement of most courses to be met. It also allows people to upskill their science skills, if intending to apply for a scientific role in the future; for example, midwifery and biology related degrees. There is no upper-age limit for GCSE Biology. The course is part time and students complete the course in one year.

What will I learn

You will develop an understanding of animals and plants in the wider world. You will complete assessments to measure progress after each unit as well as tasks that help to improve exam technique. You will also experience practical work which will increase your understanding within the subject of Biology. You will develop a range of skills, including, designing an investigation; collecting and presenting data; understanding limitations of scientific evidence.

How will I learn

Class sessions are three hours a week and will involve lectures and demonstrations. The course has a strong online content which is supported using the Microsoft Teams’ format, where there will be interactive lessons and tasks.

What's next

Learners can apply for A level biology or progress onto a teaching qualification. They may also progress onto Access to Higher Education Diplomas.
