Course overview
Digital technology has transformed our lives and will continue to do so in this ever changing, fast paced industry. The UK continues to lead the way in developing new technologies and driving innovation to become a world leader in digital tech. Regionally and nationally, across the UK, there are a range of exciting career pathways and a growing number of job opportunities.
The T Level qualification is an exciting brand new two-year full-time course that has been designed in partnership with businesses and employers that is aimed to give you the knowledge and skills to support you move into a career in software production and design.
This course includes 45 days minimum of working with a local employer on an industry placement.
During the 2-year programme, you will develop the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of software production and design occupations.
You will gain an understanding of software production and design including:
- Programming (Python and more)
- Employer set project
- Data in Computing
- Security in Computing
- Digital Environments
- Business Environments
- Project Management
You will also undertake an industry placement, that will be aligned to your career aspirations identified in your career plan. This will be a minimum of 45 days.
The industry placements will support you to develop a breadth of new skills to provide you with a valuable opportunity to progress towards your career goals.
Course information
You’ll be assessed in a range of ways, including:
- Written examination which is externally marked
- Employer set project which is externally marked
- Occupational assessments
- A range of assessments that blend the knowledge and skills outcomes into practical assignments.
Successful completion of the Level 3 course can lead to progression onto an Apprenticeship, Level 4 or Degree on a range of Higher Education courses or employment in a range of digital specialisms.
Five GCSEs grades 4, or above, and must include a minimum of grade 5 in English, maths. A GCSE in computer science is also preferable. You will also require a successful interview.
You will also undertake a high quality, structured and outcomes-focused industry placement, this is an integral part of the new T-Level programme. The industry placement will be aligned to your career aspirations identified in your career plan. This will equate to a minimum of 9 weeks.
You will study in dedicated specialist computing labs that include industry standard software.
Delivery is through practical work, classroom activities and group teaching.
