The Level 1 course is exactly what is needed to develop the basic hand skills and tool development to build a foundation career in this affluent trade.
You will learn about the maintenance and use of woodworking hand tools. You will learn how to cut, shape, trim, fix and finish a range of materials, as well as basic wood jointing techniques. Lessons also cover safe working practices, quantities and communication.
Course information
Students take an externally set examination.
Two GCSEs graded between 1-9 would be desirable**.
**If you do not already have an English and maths GCSE grade 4-9, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study.
Suitable clothing and footwear are required to comply with health and safety requirements. Boots are provided.
Students are expected to come to every session equipped with pen, pencil and relevant note taking equipment. All other equipment will be provided.
Students train and undertake continuous coursework which will be set in both a practical and theoretical context.
