Introduction

T Levels are new two-year, Level 3 study programmes that will follow the study of GCSEs and Technical Awards at Key Stage 4 and offer an attractive alternative to A Levels and Apprenticeships. T Levels will combine classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum 315 hours of industry placement with an employer to make sure students have real experience of the workplace. During the two-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge that underpins each industry, and they will also develop occupationally specific skills that will allow them to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation. The T Level programmes have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so the content will meet the needs of industry and prepare students for work. They provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door to highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher-level study, including university.

What will I learn

Students will develop a general understanding of construction including fundamental health and safety regulations, control of noise and working at height, while working safely across different construction projects. In addition to the core content, you will also learn specific elements relating to this T Level specialism of bricklaying, including: • Bricklaying tools and equipment, building regulations and methods of work • Setting out masonry structures and calculating for building resources • Establishing sub and structures and calculating for building resources • Establishing sub and superstructure elements of a building • Finishing and establishing working areas • Calculating both labour and material costs • Prepare for the construction of complex masonry structures • Construct complex masonry structures • Renovate masonry structures

What's next

On successful completion of this T Level you could progress onto a higher apprenticeship or university. You could go on to achieve future careers focusing on Surveying and Design, Civil Engineering, Building Services Design, or Hazardous Materials Surveying.

The building industry is currently booming and qualified bricklayers in management roles can earn between £500 and £1000 per week.
