Introduction

The course is designed for learners who are passionate about the hair and beauty industry and want to develop the practical skills, creativity and professional knowledge needed to progress into further training, apprenticeships or employment within the sector Throughout this exciting and hands-on qualification, learners will explore a wide range of hair and beauty techniques, including hairstyling, skincare, nail services, make-up artistry and client care. The course combines practical salon-based learning with industry knowledge, helping students build confidence, professionalism and creativity in a realistic working environment. Students will have the opportunity to develop essential practical skills such as blow-drying and finishing hair, basic cutting and colouring techniques, manicure and pedicure treatments, skincare, nail art, face painting and make-up application. Learners will also gain valuable knowledge in health and safety, customer service, retail skills and preparing for employment within the industry. A key feature of the qualification is the creative themed image unit, where learners research ideas, design mood boards, and create complete looks using hair, make-up and nails. This encourages imagination, individuality and artistic expression while developing planning and presentation skills.

Learners will gain hands-on experience in: • Basic hairdressing techniques including shampooing, blow-drying, plaiting, twisting, winding and basic cutting skills • Hair colouring using semi-permanent colour products • Beauty treatments such as skincare, manicure, pedicure, eyebrow shaping and nail art • Creative make-up techniques including face painting and photographic make-up • Creating complete themed looks using hair, make-up and nails • Researching ideas and developing mood boards to inspire creative designs • Planning and organising practical work through action plans and timed preparation • Maintaining professional standards of hygiene, health and safety within a salon environment • Developing communication, client care and customer service skills • Promoting and selling products and services within the hair and beauty industry • Building confidence, teamwork and professional presentation skills • Preparing for interviews and future employment opportunities within the sector Learners will also understand the importance of professionalism, sustainability and safe working practices, including infection prevention, client care and working within current health and safety legislation. The course encourages creativity and self-expression while helping learners build the practical skills needed to progress onto further study, apprenticeships or careers within hairdressing, barbering or beauty therapy.
