How many steps do you think you have taken this month?
If you have been part of our Walk All Over Cancer event the total could be over 270,000 so far. That equates to approximately 127 miles and we haven't finished yet.
Among those taking part in the national Cancer Research UK challenge is safeguarding officer Natalie McNeil. We had a chat with Natalie to see how it's going...
Name: Natalie
Age: 28
From: Sedgefield
Why did you decide to take part?
Like so many others there's a lot of people in my and my husband's family that have been affected by cancer. Aiming to hit 10,000 steps a day is something that I do anyway, so this seemed a good way to keep me on track and to motivate me on those days when I might not otherwise have quite hit my target, to push that little bit further.
How hard has it been for you so far?
It hasn't been too difficult. On those days when I need a boost I think of my poor dog and how taking her out will help me hit my target - on those days she has been my inspiration.
Has it made a difference having other people at the college on board?
It really has. We are more likely to say shall we go for a walk at lunch time and it encourages you to have a proper break rather than sitting at your computer.
Will you keep it up after the end of March?
100% yes. I don't think the dog would let me stop now anyway.
What is your top tip to stay motivated?
Get your friends involved and challenge one another either daily or weekly, that helps to keep you focused.
