Do you dream of a career in radio?Stockton Riverside College has joined forces with Ignition Radio to offer an exciting opportunity that could help budding presenters, journalists and editors, on their way to their future careers.
The new Stockton community station is launching a 12-week Traineeship delivering experience in a wide range of media-related roles.
Manager Tony Beards said: “This is a great opportunity for people to sample what it’s like to work in a radio environment and get some real hands-on experience.”
Part of Teesside Community Media which also runs the University Hospital of North Tees’s Radio Stitch, Ignition Radio is an internet radio station providing a mixture of music and entertainment shows to the Stockton community.
Tony explained that spending four days a week covering flexible hours at the radio station and one day a week at the College, the new Traineeship will give students the chance to shape their experience to suit the direction they would like their future career to take.
As well as developing skills such as presenting, communications, production, editing, public relations and marketing, the course will also focus on essential functional skills.
“These are all highly transferable skills when it comes to progressing to further education or employment,” said Tony.
At the end of the 12 weeks students will be guaranteed an interview with the potential to move on to an apprenticeship with the station or they could progress to an alternate apprenticeship or full time study programme.
Stockton Riverside College’s assessor in IT and Creative Digital Media Tracy McNicholas said: “This is an exciting opportunity for young people aged 16 to 24 with an interest in the media. It will offer an insight into the diverse roles that are available and help them to make those important decisions on how to progress while at the same time gaining all-important work experience.”
The Traineeship with Ignition Radio starts on Tuesday May 5. For more details go to www.stockton.ac.uk/courses/apprenticeships or call 01642 865 566.
