Hard work has paid off for IT student Michael Watson.

The 20-year-old from Eaglescliffe is among those celebrating results day success.

As well as picking up a Double Distinction Star in his first year of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT, Michael secured a B grade in GCSE English Language.

"I feel fantastic really," said the Stockton Riverside College student. "I know I have worked hard over the last year to achieve a good grade and now I am happy that has paid off."

He said the B grade in English is a particular milestone.

"I have re-sat it three times since I did my GCSEs for the first time.

"I have finally got a good grade, third time round."

Looking forward to his next year of study and hoping to progress on to university, Michael said: "I've been really interested in computers for a while now so this is the ideal course for me."

Unsure which field of IT he would like to specialise in, he said: "The course is perfect for my situation as it covers a bit of everything."
