When it comes to customer service it turns out that Stockton Riverside College student Rachel is something of a natural.
With a kind word and a smile for everyone, it’s clear she has a flair for delivering spectacular service.
The 23-year-old from Stockton certainly impressed bosses at the McDonald’s Wolviston branch during a recent work placement, so much so in fact that the management team at the popular fast food restaurant chain decided to offer her a job.
“Rachel made such an impact with her exceptional customer service,” said the restaurant’s Business Manager Julie Travill. “She has been amazing and is so natural with customers.”
Currently studying Foundation Skills at the college, Rachel took part in the work placement to help practise her employability skills.
The course aims to help people to achieve their individual goals, by developing skills and confidence.
The college’s Foundation Skills Job Coach and Work Experience Co-ordinator Laura Thompson said: “Taking part in real work experience is a great way to teach students how they need to behave at work, meeting new people and learning about important aspects of the workplace such as health and safety.”
Happy to be working with the McDonald’s team, three students have so far taken part in work placements at the restaurant. Laura said: “This has been an amazing opportunity, the company has been so supportive. To have a student secure a job offer is spectacular, we are so proud.”
Impressed with the enthusiasm of all of the students, McDonald’s Business Manager Julie said: “People are at the heart of our business. We pride ourselves on offering opportunities for all. Being able to work as part of a team and committed to creating a great experience for our customers are qualities we look for when hiring new members of our team and Rachel just shone in both these areas.”
She said: “We received fantastic feedback, including one customer who even commented about Rachel’s customer service on Twitter. To offer her a paid position was an easy decision.”
The Stockton student discovered her passion for working in a restaurant on a catering course at the college.
Now looking forward to getting started Rachel said: “I am really happy. The work experience was hard work but I picked it up and didn’t feel nervous.
“I like to push myself and now I have got this job.”
