A Billingham teacher has gone global in a bid to help spread the word about the value of practical teaching.SRC Bede Sixth Form Physics teacher, Bernard Taylor, was among a delegation of guest speakers invited to share their expertise at an international conference in Singapore.
“My task was to help encourage Physics teachers to carry out more practical work,” he said.
To illustrate the point, Bernard, who is well known among his students at the college in Billingham for his passion for the subject and enthusiastic teaching style, offered up a series of fun physics experiments.
“I shared a lot of ideas for practical projects and demonstration experiments,” he said. “I also shared a teaching approach in which I set brief practical and conceptual challenges for students.”
The Envisioning Physics Education for the 21st Century conference took place at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and was aimed at teachers from across South-east Asia.
Almost 200 teachers attended from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan and Cambodia.
Other speakers at the event included Paul Hardaker, the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Physics and Charles Tracey, the Education Manager of the Institute of Physics.
