superhero-students-sensation-1Have you spotted the latest video to explode into popularity on Facebook?

The one that’s got four superheroes busting some moves to the Bruno Mars’ hit, Uptown Funk.

If you haven’t already, with 34 million online hits, then chances are you soon will.

And here at Stockton Riverside College we were particularly impressed as two of the guys behind the masks are Performing Arts students at the College.

Taking some time out from their superhero duties, we caught up with Spiderman, aka Level 2 Performing Arts student, Sam Davies, and Bumblebee, otherwise known as Adam Harrison, who is on the Performing Arts Foundation Degree at the College, delivered in partnership with Teesside University.

“It is surreal for us,” said Adam, 20, of Hartlepool.

“This was just an everyday normal gig,” added Sam, 17.

It just so happened that on this day, having caught the moment on camera, someone decided to upload it on to Facebook.

Some 34 million hits (and counting) later and it’s fair to say the guys are staggered. The video has been shared by the likes of The Lad Bible, Heart Radio and Fox2Now, and has led to calls from America and Australia with requests for the superhero team to perform.

“We couldn’t believe it when we reached 500,000 views, and then the first million,” said Adam, who less than a week ago was impressing audiences playing The Voice of Audrey ll in the College’s musical performance of Little Shop of Horrors.

Keen street dancer, Sam, also from Hartlepool, who admits that he discovered his uncanny knack of landing on his feet after taking a fall from a fence as a child, said: “The response has been unbelievable.”

Both hoping to go on to pursue a future career in performance, they are happy to admit they do enjoy getting the chance to play the part of their childhood-favourite superheroes.

Adam, who hopes to one day run his own academy, said: “Seeing the kids’ faces is magical, they really believe we are them.”

As for the team, he said: “We are all nerds, we read the comic books and watch the films, so when we get into character we think we actually are them.”

The Make My Day Event’s Superhero School are now planning a UK tour this summer.
