Lucy Cobb from Billingham is joining a group of Circus Central unicyclists taking their place in the spectacular 73-mile performance relay.

Part of the BBC’s Music Day – a nationwide celebration of music – Hadrian’s Wall of Sound will see hundreds of musicians and performers pass a baton the length of the wall, using various modes of transport, covering the route from Cumbria to Tyneside.

SRC Bede Sixth Form student Lucy, 18, said: “It should be fun and it’s great to be involved in such a big event.”

She will be joined tomorrow by her mum, Fiona, and brother, Harvey, also both keen unicyclists.

No stranger to performing, Lucy, who regularly takes part in conventions and festivals across the UK, and even further afield, started unicycling when she joined Billingham-based JUST (Juggling Unicycling Stockton-on-Tees) aged 11.

Bitten by the bug, she and her brother were soon mastering the tricks of the trade, and even mum couldn’t resist having a go.

Currently sitting her A levels in Maths, Biology and Chemistry, Lucy, who still trains with JUST and is also a member of regional youth circus, Five Ring Circus at Newcastle’s Central Circus, said: “It is a really fun thing to do.”

The aim of BBC’s Music Day is to bring people together through their love of music. More than 10 towns and cities across the UK are due to host events tomorrow.

In a 14-hour relay the Hadrian’s Wall of Sound will see performances from a range of different acts from an opera singer to a ukulele band performing at locations along the route.

Viewers can follow the action at www.bbc.co.uk/musicday. There will also be coverage from the event on Radio 3 and BBC Look North.
