Students are getting a taste for their future career with the Stottie Co. this week as FIVE sector- based work academy students are taken on for apprenticeships with the booming Stockton-based business.
The newly-appointed apprentices were put through their paces in one of the college’s four-week dedicated academies, designed to enhance a learner’s knowledge in the employer’s field.
All the learners from the academy received their certificates from Managing Director of the Stottie Co., Sharon Olivero-Chapman.
Sharon said: “We have big plans for the future. The flagship store at the Castlegate Centre, Stockton, will act as a training centre for further franchises.”
“Taking on five apprentices was a no brainer for me. Apprentices are fresh-faced and work incredibly hard and having the ability to learn the way our business works is a huge advantage.”
Speaking of the sector-based work academy, Sharon said: “The programme is incredible. I can’t tell you how much of a relief it is to know that you will have a dedicated workforce at the end of the four-week programme based around our business needs and modules that I have chosen.”
She added: “The students have all done fantastic to be where they are today.”
Academy graduate, Daniel Robson, 23, from Stockton said: “It has been a brilliant experience. “
“I have learned so much from the programme. It has helped me prepare for work and has been a great way for me to expand on the skills I already have.”
Daniel added that it helped give him the confidence to return to education knowing that learners are guaranteed an interview with an employer following completion of their course.
The award-winning company is expanding across the area and will launch its flagship store in the Castlegate Centre, Stockton which will open later this month.
Michelle Elliott, Director of Business Development at Stockton Riverside College, is thrilled to be working with the business.
Michelle said: “It’s great to be working so closely with such an ambitious company. Our sector-based work academies can offer the close training that employers need to prepare its team for the demands of a busy working environment.”
“The dedicated programme for business is all part of meeting the needs for employers and tailoring a workforce that fits with their needs.”
All the academy students will receive dedicated guidance and advice to help them progress into apprenticeships and work within the catering industry
