It's not just staff at Stockton Riverside College that have been joining our Walk All Over Cancer charity challenge.

Vice Students' Union President Joshua Clarke has also been stepping up for a good cause.

The challenge is to take 10,000 steps every day throughout March, raising awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK.

With just two days to go before our dedicated bunch finally get to put their feet up, we chatted with Josh.

Why did you decided to take part in the Cancer Research UK Walk All Over Cancer event?

It sounded like a great way to make people more aware of the charity and as part of the Students' Union if we are encouraging more people to get involved in activities like this it is important we are willing to get involved ourselves.

How is it going so far?

I didn't expect it to be too tough as I walk quite a bit anyway and get lots of steps in walking around college but as it turns out it is weekends that are the struggle.

What do you think of the college's involvement in this event?

It has been good fun and it's great to have a bit of competition as well. There's a group of us doing it and that helps to keep your motivation up, having a bit of healthy competition.

Have you hit the 10,000 every day?

I have been averaging between 60,000  and 80,000 steps a week or more.

What would be your top tip to help get your steps up?

Just have a bit of fun with it, if you are enjoying what you are doing it makes it so much easier and the steps quickly add up.

Do you want to play a more active part in college life? Why not join our Students' Union and help us create an even better college environment for yourself and other students? A voice for the students the union is here to represent you. If you would like to get involved speak to Student Services.
