Young basketball fans who are considering their options after leaving school are invited to come and try out their skills at a brand new sports academy taster session at SRC Bede Sixth Form.

Join our basketball academy taster session this Sunday

The college in Billingham is inviting potential students to come along to a practical session at the SRC Sports Centre this Sunday (Dec 10th), where they can have a go, pick up new skills and find out how the academy could fit around their full-time studies.

Phil Cummins, SRC Bede’s programme area leader for sport and public services, said: “The academy is a fantastic opportunity for students of SRC Bede who enjoy basketball to train regularly as part of a professional set up.”

He explained, as part of the basketball academy students would have access to:

  • High quality coaching

  • Free injury assessment and sports injury treatment

  • Free sports massage therapy

  • Free strength and conditioning training sessions along with individualised training programmes

There will also be the chance to compete in the AoC North East Basketball League and cups. And with links to Teesside Lions Basketball Club, students will train with the club’s head coach, James Thompson.

New for September 2018, the basketball academy is the latest addition to SRC Bede’s range of sport academies with programmes also available in football and netball.

Whether you are a basketball beginner or a seasoned player, Phil says the academy will offer benefits for players of all levels.

“Students will improve both their basketball skills and their levels of physical conditioning, working with qualified sports therapists and strength and conditioning coaches,” he said.

The open taster session will take place this Sunday (Dec 10th, 2017) at the SRC Sports Centre, Marsh House Avenue, from 1pm until 3pm.

All current year 10 and 11 students are welcome. You simply need your sports kit and an interest in playing basketball.
