Seeing her own show performed on stage will be a special moment for Stockton student Jody Gannon.
Not only does it mark the culmination of years of hard work for the 31-year-old from Billingham but the production also holds an important message.
Working with members of Stockton’s E3 Theatre Company, Jody has produced a variety performance that brings together people of all abilities.
“I wanted to show that just because you have a learning difficulty or disability it doesn’t mean you can’t perform as well as, and in some cases better than, anyone else,” she said.
Taking to the stage at Stockton Riverside College’s Margaret Armstrong Theatre, Jody’s production, Live It – Dream It – Do It, is part of the college’s Higher Education Performing Arts season.
Starting next week the theatre line-up will feature 11 shows produced and created by Teesside University BA Hons Performing Arts students, working in partnership with Stockton Riverside College.
Jody, who is working with fellow student, Lauren McGarvey, said: “It has been hard work, but it is amazing experience to put all that you have learnt into practice, witnessing first hand all that goes into producing a show and then seeing it come together.”
Having spent the last nine years working part time with E3, a theatre company for young adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, former Abbey Hill School Academy student, Jody, was keen to get the group involved.
E3’s director, Georgia Haslam, said: “The company were really pleased to help Jody with her final project and it’s a great opportunity to let more people know that we are here and to be able to perform in front of a different audience.”
Live It – Dream It – Do It, takes place at the Margaret Armstrong Theatre, Stockton Riverside College, Harvard Avenue, Stockton, on Wednesday May 4, 7pm. Tickets are £5 adults and £4 concessions. Click here for tickets.
