A lifelong dream to work as cabin crew has come true for former Stockton Riverside College student Jade.

The former aviation student has been snapped up by Jet2 and this week she made a flying visit to talk about her experiences so far with current learners.

“To be that student who has started work and come back to talk about it feels really good,” said Jade, 20.

“Just last year I was in their shoes so I know exactly what they are going through.”

Starting work with Jet2 earlier this month, Jade is currently going through an intense four-week training period.

Her first working flight is booked in for March.

She said: “I am nervous but also excited, I can’t wait to get my wings and get up there.”

For the former High Tunstall College of Science pupil, working in cabin crew has always been her ambition. Choosing to study aviation at Stockton Riverside College gave her the grounding she needed to find work in the industry.

Juggling her studies around full-time work, she started her career last year as a passenger agent with Swissport at Leeds Bradford Airport.

“I wanted to learn about every single department so that I could understand each role,” she said.

The experience, alongside her studies, gave her the skills she needed to impress when it came to the competitive interview process.

“Doing the course had certainly given me an insight into what to expect,” she said.

“Working at the airport helped as it meant that I knew a lot of the airport roles.”

Her advice to current students hoping to follow in her footsteps, she said would be to research the airline that you are going for.

Jade explained: “I had done loads of research and it helped when it came to the interview.”

Happy to share what she has learned, she said: “The people that have come in to the college to talk to us helped me know what to expect, so I do want to help other students and see them grow.”

She said the aviation course at Stockton Riverside College helped to kick-start her career.

“If I hadn’t done the course then I wouldn’t have had a clue. Everything you learn and the trips really help. I certainly felt like it gave me an advantage.”
