Musical Theatre students are bringing a Miracle performance to the ARC stage in Stockton.
But if you haven’t got your tickets yet you might be in for a disappointment. Tickets have been flying out for the festive spectacular. And with more shows already added to the line-up, those too are selling out fast.
Stockton Riverside College’s Performing Arts Musical Theatre lecturer Sara Durkin said: “The demand for tickets has been incredible. It just goes to show the love that there is for this holiday classic.
“We have had to urge our students’ parents to act fast to avoid disappointment.”
Every year the Musical Theatre students from Stockton Riverside College take their Christmas production to the ARC to experience life performing in a professional venue.
Performing as close to professional standards as possible, the students put on a stream of back-to-back shows in the run up to Christmas.
This year the students will be putting on a spectacular run of 31 performances spread across 12 days.
Bringing some festive magic to Stockton, this musical adaptation of the film of the same name, sees Kris Kringle battle to bring back the magic of the season and one little girl’s belief in Father Christmas.
The college team auditioned child performers from across Teesside to fill the lead role of Susan.
Sara said: “The quality of young performers out there is fantastic and it was an incredibly difficult job to narrow it down to our final five.”
With multiple casts alternating the shows, the Musical Theatre instructor said the demand on the college students will be massive.
But, she added: “What better preparation for the real demands of life on stage? This is a fantastic opportunity for all of our young people to gain real experience in a professional venue.”
The production of Miracle on 34th Street the Musical follows on from previous sell-out performances including Oliver, Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz, as well as the college’s popular summer musicals such as Cats, Fame and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Sara said: “Every year I am amazed by the talent and work ethic of our students. We bring in professional performers and choreographers, as well as former students, to workshop with the group and despite the long hours of rehearsals they never fail to give their all.”
Miracle on 34th Street the Musical, presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe), starts at ARC Stockton on Friday (Dec 7) and runs until Thurs Dec 20, with matinee, afternoon and evening performances.
